On the HIGH of the day

“Here we go again!” the sarcasm replaced what should have been an excitement as I sat up on the side of the bed. It was time for the daily routine to begin. I fell backward onto the bed screaming “This is not the life I want to live.” I’m sure I’m not the only one who has said this and what I don’t understand is why do some of us just settle on a mundane existence. The bitter routine of waking up preparing for a job to pay the bills without any sense of gratification stemming from it. We work without being completely fulfilled, making room for regret and the excuses we tell ourselves to make us feel better. In the midst of living a repetitive lifestyle, you have to incorporate the moments where your mind is in pure bliss even if for a little while. So what do I do? I put my song on and turn it all the way up and just cruise.

I’m in my car and I feel the release of endorphins stimulating my brain and nervous system. It sets me on a serious high as I reach down to hit the play button on my favorite mix uploaded on my phone. “Bluetooth audio” were the next words spoken as I sync the music to my car and it began. A feeling only to be expressed as a mental evolution taking place. Experiencing a complete shift in consciousness. How I would love to dwell there full-time. Floating on the goodness of not thinking of anything else but the present moment accompanied by a sound that expresses the rhythm felt within. My heart just skipped a beat. Tell me I’m not the only one who’ve felt this way. So awe-inspiring! The flow of creativity resides here.

I’ve reached my destination and its okay. All of that good feeling I had while driving in my car I took with me through the double doors of my workplace. Work is full of the usual amount of stress and it could weigh on you at times. An outlet is essential to the salvation of your well-being. I know, it sounds a bit much but, it is so true. I had to learn the hard way on how unmanaged stress can destroy and over time I began to add different things to help manage. Music can cause you to channel the Superwoman or Superman you have locked inside. It changes things! Which is why the music industry thrives. Even in the church when you are sitting or in some cases standing while a song ministers to you. An internal shift begins to take place penetrating your inner being. As I near the end of my work shift I peeped the time at the corner of the computer screen and it was three minutes before I said: “peace out.” I definitely was not letting work follow me home and so I already had my mind preoccupied on what’s to come.

I left out the front doors with a pep in my step mouthing “Thank God! I made it through another day.” I’m not worried at all if anyone had seen me throw my hands up to thank the one above simply because the two coworkers walking ahead of me did the very same thing. I felt like breaking out into a song with a fist pump just like Beyonce “Freedom” was my anthem at the end of the day. I threw away everything that had stressed me out for the past eight hours and simply glided on the vibes of my favorite song. The euphoric release consummates the mind and the body on another level. If you have made it to the end of this then please do the following. Find your pleasure in life and live it. If that’s asking too much then bask in the really good moments.
